Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ripped a jury's decision to recommend that Nikolas Cruz serve a life sentence in prison. The jury took seven hours to come to the decision, which ended the three-month penalty phase of Cruz’s case. Family members of victims could be seen shaking their heads at the verdict readout. Under Florida law, a unanimous vote is required for a person to be sentenced to death.

Donald Trump

The petition was a last-ditch legal effort aimed at keeping the more than 100 classified documents he took after leaving office. The documents were seized by the FBI following a search of the former president’s home at Mar-a-Lago. The Supreme Court rejected Trump's request with no dissents noted.

Nikolas Cruz, 24, pleaded guilty to 17 counts of premeditated murder. He shot and killed 14 students and three staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. A Florida jury recommended a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

India's Supreme Court has failed to deliver a verdict on whether Muslim students can wear the hijab in schools and colleges. One judge upheld a Karnataka high court order that said the hijab was not "essential" to Islam. The other said the high court's order was erroneous and wearing hijab was a matter of choice.
