Former officer Thomas Lane was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Thursday for his role in the 2020 death of George Floyd. Lane was convicted of depriving Floyd of medical care as he lay dying under Officer Derek Chauvin’s knee in May 2020. The killing of Floyd, who was Black, sparked protests in Minneapolis and around the world over racial injustice in policing. Lane is required to pay restitution and will be placed on supervised release for two years after serving his time.

Roman Polanski fled the U.S. as a fugitive on the eve of sentencing in 1978. He pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor in exchange for prosecutors dropping drug, rape and sodomy charges.
