Ayman al-Zawahiri, who took over the terrorist group after founder Osama bin Laden's death, was killed in a CIA drone strike in Kabul on Sunday. Republicans are slamming President Joe Biden for applauding the killing of Al Qaeda's top leader. The strike was carried out early Sunday at an Afghanistan safe house the elderly terrorist had be holed up in. US intelligence officials tracked Zawahri to a home in downtown Kabul where he was hiding out with his family.

Luke Donald

England's Luke Donald named European Ryder Cup captain for 2023. Donald replaces Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who was stripped of his captaincy after joining the new LIV Golf Invitational Series. Stenson was deposed as captain after signing with LIV earlier this month.

Guy Reffitt

Guy Reffitt, 49, was found guilty in March on five felony counts. He was sentenced to 87 months in prison, three years of probation, $2,000 in restitution, and mandatory mental health treatment. Prosecutors sought a 15-year prison sentence using terrorism as a sentencing enhancement. His defense team is seeking a maximum of two years in prison.

Fernando Alonso has signed a three-year deal with Aston Martin. Double world champion will replace Sebastian Vettel at the British team. Vettel announced he will retire from F1 at the end of the current campaign.

England defeated Germany 2-1 after extra-time in the Euro 2022 final. Goals from Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly secured the win for the Lionesses. The win marked the first major tournament success in Lioness history. A record crowd of 87,192 watched the game at Wembley Stadium.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was handed a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The punishment comes after 24 women accused Watson of sexual misconduct. The NFL now has three days to decide whether to appeal the ruling or not.

President Joe Biden says the U.S. conducted a drone strike that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. The revelation is expected to degrade the terror group's ability to operate. The Egyptian-born surgeon played a key role in planning of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Deshaun Watson was accused by more than 20 women massage therapists of inappropriate behavior, including sexual assault. Watson settled 20 of the cases against him in June. The punishment is far less than the full season that the league had hoped for as a minimum. The NFL has three days to appeal the decision.

Nichelle Nichols

Nichelle Nichols was one of the first black actresses in the US to play a figure in authority. She portrayed Lt. Nyota Uhura on the "Star Trek" television series from 1966-1969. Nichols went on to become a recruiter for NASA, helping recruit people of color and female astronauts.
