Johnny Depp has been awarded more than $10 million in damages in the blockbuster US defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. A seven-person jury returned a verdict in favour of Depp, 58, following a six-week trial. He was awarded damages of $10m (£8m) and a further $5m (£4m) in punitive damages. Depp skipped the court hearing to hang with his musician friends in London.

The jury ruled that she defamed Depp when she wrote a 2018 Washington Post op-ed alluding to her past claims of domestic violence. Crowds were overheard chanting in support of Depp outside the Fairfax courthouse. Depp was not in attendance when the verdict was read.

Fans who arrived as early as 5.30pm for a 9pm kick-off were corralled into the worst holding areas I’ve ever witnessed in a modern stadium. Footage has emerged of a nine-year-old boy crying on the streets of Paris after his father was hit by tear gas deployed by French police. Kick-off was delayed by 36 minutes as a dangerous situation developed outside the Stade de France.
