Elena Branson, 61, has been charged with acting as an illegal agent of the Russian government. Branson is alleged to have corresponded with President Vladimir Putin. She is also accused of trying to hide the fact that the organization she founded and ran was backed by tens of thousands of dollars in funding from the Kremlin. Prosecutors say Branson willfully evaded registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act for nearly a decade.

McDonald's said on Wednesday that the temporary closure of its 847 stores in Russia will cost the fast-food chain about $50 million a month. Starbucks suspended all business activity in Russia Tuesday, temporarily closing locations. ExxonMobil announced March 1 it will exit a joint venture off Sakhalin Island in Russia’s Far East. Ratings agency Fitch downgraded Russia deep into junk territory on Tuesday, predicting a sovereign default.

Conservative politician Yoon Suk-yeol has been elected president of South Korea. He defeated ruling party candidate Lee Jae-myung in a bitter race.

NFL Network reported that the 38-year-old Rodgers had agreed to a four-year, $200-million US contract. But Pat McAfee disputed the terms and said the contract wasn't signed yet. The deal includes $153m in guaranteed money and would lower his salary cap figure for the 2022 season.
