Wright was due to face trial on a charge of attempted aggravated robbery - with a possible maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Police Chief Tim Gannon referred to the incident as an "accidental discharge" and that the officer who shot and killed Wright meant to grab their taser.

Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliot announced on Tuesday that Police Chief Tim Gannon would also be resigning. The police chief has since claimed that Potter mistook her handgun for a non-lethal taser.

When cops asked Wright to get out of the car, he did, but then got back into the car and tried to flee; that's when Potter shot him.
