Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won't use his emergency powers to hold an impeachment trial. The Senate won't return until its scheduled date of Jan. 19, just a day before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. McConnell worked to scuttle the impeachment effort during a trial last year on different charges. A two-thirds majority is needed to convict Trump.

Lisa Montgomery, 52, was pronounced dead at 1.31am EST on Wednesday at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana. Montgomery, who is from Kansas, killed expectant mother Bobbie Jo Stinnett in Missouri in 2004 before cutting the baby from her womb. Doctors say Montgomery is brain-damaged and mentally ill. She has alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that puts her at high risk for COVID-19.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Wednesday that all were being canceled. He said the city's legal team looked at their contracts which include a severance clause for criminal activity.

President Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy had a "tense, 30-minute-plus phone call" Trump ranted about election fraud and McCarthy cut him off, saying: "Stop it. It's over. The election is over" Trump has not publicly accepted any responsibility for the unrest at the Capitol.

Aaron Mostofsky, 34, was arrested and released on a $100,000 bond Tuesday. He is charged with felony theft of government property, unlawful entry of a restricted building and disorderly conduct. Prosecutors allege that he stole a police riot shield and bulletproof police vest.
