The military confirmed to NPR that she was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. Her ex-husband said she was known for her outspoken political views. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser blamed President Trump for the circumstances. 'His constant and divisive rhetoric led to the abhorrent actions we saw,' she said.

With Congress approving Vermont’s votes, Biden now has at least the 270 Electoral College votes that are the minimum for claiming the presidency. President-elect Joe Biden will select Boston Mayor Marty Walsh as his labor secretary. Merrick Garland, previously put forward for a U.S. Supreme Court spot that didn't pass, is the nominee.

organizationGOP lost control of the Senate after failing to hold either of its seats in Georgia's runoff elections. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are projected to win the Senate seats for Georgia, handing overall government control to the Democratic Party.

personReverend Raphael Warnock declared victory against incumbent Republican Kelly Loeffler early Wednesday morning. Warnock, a 51-year-old Atlanta pastor, was named as the winner by Associated Press, CBC News, CNN, Edison Research and other major election monitors. The other race, between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican David Perdue, remains too close to call.

personJacob Blake, 29, was shot seven times in the back by Officer Rusten Sheskey of the Kenosha Police Department in August. On Tuesday, US prosecutors announced that no charges would be filed against the officer or any other law enforcement officials present during the shooting. Decision was based on evidence that was not captured on the widely shared cellphone footage.

organizationRaphael Warnock defeated Sen. Kelly Loeffler in Tuesday’s runoff election in Georgia. Jon Ossoff will do the same to Sen. David Perdue. Georgia will be represented by two Democrats in the U.S. Senate, giving the party a narrow majority. At least 80 House Republicans and 13 Senate Republicans plan to object to certifying Joe Biden's win.

Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris will serve as the tie-breaking 51st vote. Democrats have now won the two seats required to retake control of the Senate.

Jon Ossoff, a documentary filmmaker who at 33 would become the Senate's youngest member, also declared victory with a narrow lead over incumbent David Perdue. If upheld, the results would amount to a final defeat for outgoing President Donald Trump. Republicans are 'privately furious' at Trump over the Georgia election losses.
