Ousmane Sonko is a Senegalese politician. A former chief tax inspector in Senegal, he is an advocate for reforming the Senegalese tax system. Sonko was the youngest candidate to run in the 2019 presidential election in Senegal when he challenged the incumbent president, Macky Sall. Sonko, who is popular with Senegal’s disaffected youth, is a leading opposition figure in Senegalese politics to Macky Sall. His arrest in 2021 following sexual assault accusations caused mass protests and rioting across Senegal. Sonko is the author of three books.
